Jags Bit by Bulldogs
Richmond has come through unscaved against a lacklustre Pakuranga Jaguars posting a huge 58 to 12 win. The home team came out with all guns firing when big prop forward Jarred Semu ripped through some flimsy defence. Working off the back of some great go forward from fellow prop forward Nogo Watch were John Mana and outside backs Santos Tarua, Ben Seve and Niuvao Taka. As the team build for this week’s important play off match they can take much satisfaction away knowing that they have built up another solid team ready to defend the Sharman cup won in 2008.
A host of new faces to this team have not hindered this young side as the likes of Nathaniel Solomona, Saliga Kepaoa and Stu Esera have kept the boys level headed. Add to this mix the exciting displays of half back Tama Guthrie and gun winger Nick Afoa and the boys would say they were ready to play their final this weekend. In fact a preview of this will be headed this weekend as the Ricky Henry & John Teina coached Bulldogs take on the Howick Hornets. The Hornets have troubled the Richmond club in 2008 & 2009 and it will be a tough tussle for either team to get one over each other. Support the boys at Paparoa Park, 2.30pm. The winner is to go straight to the Auckland Rugby league SAS Sharman cup grand final in two weeks. Bite em Bulldogs!

Premier 1st grade report
Bulldogs finish season first
Richmond has posted one of their finest and biggest wins for the 2009 year thrashing the Pakuranga Jaguars 76 to 4. An overall great win strongly lead by the forward pack and directed well by young gun half Akuila Vetenibua. In the forwards, Gerhard Sundborn was in great form along with prop forward Ray Fa'aofo who managed to carve a number of metres on numerous occasions. Out wide the backs were in devastating form as the team look to have built great team work in time for play offs this weekend. Richmond finishes ahead of the second placed Glenora Bears and have guaranteed themselves the home match. The winner of this game is to go straight to the grand final in two weeks. Be sure to support the Premier 1st boys this weekend! 2.30pm kick off, Grey Lynn park - home of the Richmond Bulldogs.

Bulldogs on a roll
Richmond has posted a solid 42 to 18 win over the Mangere East Hawks at Walter Massey Park. In devastating form was Siliga Kepaoa who bagged three tries for his trouble along with gun half back Tama Guthrie who scored a double and kicked three goals. Consistently improving prop forward Jarred Semu was in terrorising form often testing the home side defence. Utility forward Karl Semiti had a fine game and so did the outside back try scorers Mohammed Ali, Meli Koliavu and Ben Seve. With this streak the Bulldogs are having it will be no wonder that they can go all the way to secure the SAS Sharman Cup for yet another year. Bite em Bulldogs!

Bulldogs get over the Hawks
Richmond has pulled off a stunning away 28 to 26 victory over the Mangere East hawks in the Premier 1st grade. Ray Fa’aofo and Bradley Watkinson were in terrorising form as they each scored a double. Gerhard Sundborn, Aukuso Fa’afoi and David Falefitu showed great displays of individual brilliance throughout the match. Try scorers also included centre Cale Baker and dominating prop forward Tala Mafoe. With the round robin season coming to an end next weekend the boys can take much away from this match as they have shown that they have the heart and courage to pull through for each other.

Richmond 20s update
Bulldogs 20s update
08/08/09: Richmond has beaten the Manukau Rovers 44 to 24 at Moyle Park. In outstanding form were left side centre and wing brothers’ combination Nio and Shane Strickland. Nio scored three tries and assisted in putting brother Shane through twice. All this was done of the back of strong go forward and good ball distribution from Ronnie David. Cornelius Talagi and Juner Uale stood out in the 20s forward pack as have other notable outside backs: PJ Fa’amausili and Kepaoa Kepaoa. A better effort today than last week’s loss has shown that the 20s boys are capable of showing good form.
01/08/09: Richmond has succumbed to a disappointing 24 to 20 loss against the Mangere East Hawks at House Park. A better attitude at training should see the team through to the next few weeks. No doubt the 20s boys know they will need a better effort if they are to remain in contention for the play offs.
25/07/09: Richmonds under 20s has belted the Ellerslie Eagles 56 to 14 at Victoria Park. Ellerslie turned up prepared and short of players whilst Richmond have been in good form. Ronnie David had an outstanding game in standoff with precise kicking and well organised set plays for the outside backs. Cornelius Talagi was very committed on defence as well as attack. St George Dragons coach Wayne Bennet was on hand along with his team to watch the boys play. An experience for many of the under 20s boys to watch Australian and Kiwi internationals at there training best.

Premier 1st grade report
Raiders raided by Bulldogs
Richmond has smashed the Hibiscus Coast Raiders 58 to 4 at Grey Lynn Park. Although a slow first half the Bulldogs packed went back to basics and posted a great second half thrashing. Standoff Aukuso Fa’afoi snatched three tries with great support and footwork whilst dominating Bulldogs Jarred Semu and Tama Guthrie bagged a double. Despite the large margin win the Bulldogs have shown much promise with the inclusion of a number of Premier 1st players. The Premier 1st game had been won by default and this allowed a rotation and rest process for a few Premier gradte players allowing other boys to be looked at. Other try scorers included gun wingers Nick Afoa and Meli Koliavu, and halves/hooker pairing Johnny Rua and Roberto Va’ai. With so many boys competing for spots in the Premier grade team it is going to be a growing challenge for the Richmond co-coaches to select a 17. Testament to the development within the club the Richmond Bulldogs playing stocks are looking very healthy for yet another year.

Late surge pushes Bulldogs Premiers
It was a glorious day at Richmond with Saturday 25th July 09 being Afi Ah Kuoi Memorial Gala Day. Richmond celebrated in style with a come from behind win against a worthy opponent in Glenora. The Bulldogs trailed most of the game, and it was a physical and mistake ridden affair. With 10 minutes the score was 16-8 then Richmond scored to give them a sniff of hope, and with 3 minutes to go Daniel Palavi scored which made it level 16-16. So it came down to winger Nick Afoa to kick the goal, and he did so slotting the ball between the posts winning it for the Bulldogs 18-16. Rugby League was the winner of the day and a great match for such a celebration on Afi Ah Kuoi Memorial Gala Day.
Richmond has pulled off a stunninIn the Premier 1st grade Richmond got over the top of Glenora with a desperate 26 to 20 win. Tala Mafoe was in punishing form with hard hits and strong surges followed up by Jarred Semu. Both forwards going over for tries with a double to Tala Mafoe. Out wide Brad Watkinson and Cale Baker showed great versatility as they manoeuvred there way to the try line on the back of some great breaks up the middle. Richmond have another tough match against the Mangere East hawks next weekend away so this match will definitely have strengthen the Blue and Maroon Bulldogs pack. Both Henry Solomona and Frankie Schaumkel can be pleased with today’s effort as the boys finish the season in great form.

Wednesday night footy
Getting it on - Station of Origin
This Wednesday will see Mt Smart Stadium play host to the highlight of the Auckland Police Rugby League calendar, the Station of Origin. It’s mate against mate as the Cops from South Auckland, take on the Cops from Auckland City. Bragging rights are definitely at stake and the game is played with much intensity and feeling.

It’s mate against mate as the Cops from South Auckland, take on the Cops from Auckland City. Bragging rights are definitely at stake and the game is played with much intensity and feeling.
Police Rugby League has grown in popularity in recent times and this Wednesday will see close to 100 Police staff take part in the event. Everyone from the coaches and management through to the players are in the Police.
The curtain-raiser at 5.30pm will see the Police Masters Rugby League (over 35s) teams from City & South try to rekindle a little of the old days and try to get a taste of the glory once more. But it’s the main game at 6.45pm that will see the fireworks. Current cup holders, Counties-Manukau Police are seen as the favorites once again this year. Their Captain-Coach Bryan Laumatia (a former Cronulla player during the Super League era) has had his side training for several weeks now and will have them finely tuned on the night.
The Auckland City team is being put through their paces by Alan Lio, a former Auckland representative and Richmond Bulldogs player. Alan is up against it already as he contends with injuries to a number of his key players from their club commitments but he maintains the City team will be ready come Wednesday night.
On display you’ll see a number of talented rugby league players such as Tony Tatupu (former Warrior and Kiwi player), Boycie Nelson (former Warrior), Gavin Bailey, Junior Fiu, Bryan Laumatia, Chris Tupou, Lee Tamatoa and Ben Galovale all of whom have represented at high levels within the game of rugby league.
For a great night’s entertainment people should get down to Mt Smart Stadium where the game will be played on the No 2 field (entrance off O’Rourke Rd). The cost is $5 to get into the ground and the proceeds will be going to the charity Kids Can which provides items such as raincoats, clothing, and meals to under privileged children in the lower decile schools. Kids Can along with TV3 are hosting this year’s Telethon event billed as the Big Night In on August the 8th & 9th
