- Premier grade report

PREMIERS OVERCOME SLOW START

Richmond played there first home game for the 2010 season against the Pakuranga Jaguars at Grey Lynn park number 2 on the 27th March 2010. A slow start to the first half for the Premier Bulldogs put the Pakuranga Jaguars on the front foot stretching to an early 16 - 4 lead. Incomplete sets and a frustrated outfit went in to the break confident that they could pull this game back in to perspective. A more disciplined Premier Bulldogs side came out in the second half and with consistent completed sets and some great impact from young props Hector Purcell and Manu Mau the team were able to gain possession and territory. Tama Guthrie and Karl Semiti stepped up the intensity for the outside backs and managed to put the game out of reach for the visiting team winning comfortably 32 - 18. Player of the day: Tama Guthrie and Siliga Kepaoa.

This win puts Richmond in a group of 3 with 4 competition points alongside Mt Albert Lions and Otahuhu Leopards. A strong Richmond crowd is vital to this weekends game versus the defending champions at Mt Albert's Fowlds park, 2.30pm kick off.

Premiers vs Pakuranga: Aaron Unasa, Cale Baker, Arden McCarthy, Andre Kake, Edwin Pita, Karl Semiti (C), Tama Guthrie, Manu Mau, Henry Chang Ting, Lafi Faamausili, Siliga Kepaoa, Ben Seve, Daniel Palavi- Bench: Hector Purcell, Junior Uala, Joel McGreal, Aaron Collins

- Premier 1st report

Premier 1st prove too good for Jags!

The Premier first grade Bulldogs team played Pakuranga on Saturday 27th May 2010. We had three senior players returning from injury which helped bolster our side for our opening home game of the season. Ronnie David, Brad Watkins and Josh had great impact on the team against the visiting Jaguars.
Richmond scored seven tries with a double to Nio Strickland in his come-back game, two tries to rugby union convert Sav'e Pole and one try to hooker Ronnie David who also was quick out of dummy half. Outstanding in the forwards were Iu Faimalo and Charles Robinson. Our forwards set a slow but good platform with Jesse Bourke and Stan Bourke coming from the bench to give our forwards a second wind. The final score was 44 to 16 to the Royal Blue and Maroon. Forwards player of the day was Sav'e Pole. Backs player of the day was Nio Strickland. "Bitem Bulldogs" – Henry Solomona

- Prems topple Saints

Top side show TOP performance

Richmond's premier grade started the season in great form over the Marist Saints at Murray Halberg park with a commanding 30 - 18 victory. With overcast conditions the bulldogs forwards struck hard and fast. Strongly led by prop forwards Manu Mau and Lafi Fa'amausili the platform was set for the fringe second rowers Ben Seve and Saliga Kepaoa to expose the tired looking Saints. Halves Karl Semiti and exciting gun half back Tama Guthrie showed great composure and guile to steer the outside backs in to open space with the forwards exposing the Saints midfield. Kick returns were well defused by full back Meke Unasa and young brother bolter Aaron Unasa who eventually was pushed out to the full back spot after Meke was led from the field with an injury scare. Right side play was directed well by Guthrie in which centre-wing combination Arden McCarthy and Cale Baker exposed space down the right flank. Young gun Hector Purcell showed great determination to carry over multiple defenders over the try line to score under the posts. A much improved second half display saw the Bulldogs pack show great commitment to tackles, consistency and team work to put away the Marist Saints. A good away win in which the Bulldogs Premier grade will continue to build upon for next Saturdays home game against the Pakuranga Jaguars. BIT EM BULLDOGS!!!

- Bulldogs bite Saints

Premier 1st thrash Saints

Richmond's premier 1st grade posted a great showing in there match against the Marist Saints premier 1st grade. Short with only 12 players the team were well prepared and knew they would have to dig deep for a good showing led from the front with captain Rob Vai'i at the helm. The 1st team shot out to a 20 to nil lead with tries to young gun prop forward Sheldon Brown, the experienced half playing full back Vai'i and team organising half back Nick Tausi. The forward pack set a great platform for the exciting outside backs to run rampant. Centre playing Nogo Watch, loose forward Jesse Bourke and second rower Max Strickland gathered good metres on the fringes setting up much of the excitement for four try scorer centre Aaron Collins. Late inclusion of centre Nio Strickland at half time showed great contribution having scored three tries of his own. Final score 68 - 4 to the Mighty bullodogs. BITE EM BULLDOGS!

- Premiers kick off 2010

Bulldogs Prems kick off season versus Marist Saints

Richmonds Premier grade will be running against an unknown Marist Saints side boasting former 2007 Richmond Premier grade coach Sefo Fuimaono, at Murray Halberg park (Mt Albert, Auckland). Richmond's intense pre-season training schedule comes to an end with the start of the 2010 FOX Memorial grading round starting this weekend and what better way to start the season than against local rival and former Bartercard cup brother club, the Marist Saints. This will be no easy game for the young doggies as new coaches Alipa Solomona and Vae Kalolo, along with experienced trainer Jasen McCarthy and manager Sene Atafu have confidence in there troops to earn there spot in the elusive Fox competition for 2010.

The Bulldogs core group have been in deep pre-season training since last December and will want to take the field to unleash there supreme fitness, enthusiasm and talented backs. The Richmond forwards are looking sharp and with the experienced Karl Semiti and gun half back Tama Guthrie leading the boys around there will no doubt be some fireworks come game time. - Happy New Year to all

HAPPY NEW YEARS TO ALL RICHMOND RLFC SUPPORTERS

Richmond preseason training kicked off weeks before the Christmas break with a hiss and loud bark with many senior and Roses grade players returning to training action for some 'light' work on the hills of infamous Grey Lynn park and the dreaded Western Park. Along with the senior players were many of Richmond's junior grade up and comers. Putting in the hard yards showing all that to be a Richmond player you have to put in the hard yards even when your body is aching. Mind over body and ALL DAY BULLDOGS were shouted from all players in attendance and it continues through today as more boys return to training. In recent weeks, trainings have changed location from Grey Lynn park, to Auckland Domain, to the Boxing gym, to Pt Erin reserve and pools. A lot of feedback from players seem really positive with trainers Jasen McCarthy and team pushing the boundaries of players and supporting them throughout the week with training nights. Be sure to tell all the boys to come down for a training run as the club look to prepare for an onslaught to the 2010 Auckland rugby league competition.
