Bulldogs Pounce on Ponies

Round 8
Sat 17/May
GREY LYNN PARK 2

34 RICHMOND - 16 PONSONBY

This match was evenly balanced for long periods. Richmond scored some well earned team tries. Vulcans hooker/ half back Pita Godinet directed the team well & broke the line at will. This gave young gun half back Karl Semiti plenty of space out wide to move the ball to his outside backs. Go forward was stifled when captain & prop forward Tala Tuisila went off in the first 15 minutes injured. Interchange player Niuvao Taka slotted in to prop and loose forward Saliga Kepaoa however prompted the go forward with surging runs through the Ponies defence. It wasn't until the last 15 minutes when Richmond heaped on the points. Special praise must go to #13 Saliga Kepaoa and #14 Niuvao Taka (pictured) for their strong go-forward for the whole game. Richmond play for the Roope Rooster this Saturday at Birkenhead War Memorial at 2.30pm. Be sure to support the boys in this much needed win.

- Saints smash Bulldogs at home

Bulldogs thrashed at the hands of Saints

Round 7
Grey Lynn park 2
Marist Saints 58 – Richmond 0

Marist was given too much ball for Richmond to counter today. Despite completing sets Richmond’s lapses in defence allowed a lot of back door plays out wide to secure the visiting Saints 2 points. Second phase play was a crucial factor in Marist's big win. This marks the first time in seven years that Marist have won at Grey Lynn Park. Richmond had little to say about this game other than it will need to muster up something courageous next week to overcome this huge defeat.

- Howick edge out Richmond

Bulldogs stir up Hornets nest

Round 6
PAPAROA PARK 1

Howick 32-  RICHMOND 20

In the week leading up to the game, one would have been forgiven for predicting a mudfest due to the amount of rain about Auckland; however Paparoa Park held out and produced an open, and at time free-flowing game. Richmond started this game with a hiss and a roar scoring two early tries in the first half.
However, to the Hornets credit they grounded down the bigger Bulldogs pack and reaped the rewards with several first-half tries. They continued into the second half, and continuously broke tackles resulting in easy metres. Two sin-binnings for ruck infringements didn't help Richmond. Richmond crept back in to the game but by then uit was already too late. Howick 32-  RICHMOND 20

- Hawkes defeat Bulldogs

Round 5- Sat 26 April
Played at WALTER MASSEY PARK

Richmond outgunned by Hawks

Mangere East 46 – Richmond 24

Richmond Premiers started off strong in the opening minutes scoring a try to second rower Josh Fialua. However, when the Hawks were granted a number of penalties and a mountain of possession due to ill-error ball handling and discipline the bigger Hawks pack secured momentum. For much of the first half Richmond were penalized and defense lapses opened the game up for the Hawkes. Going in to the break Mangere East were ahead 36-6. Ball security and stiffening up the ruck area was the main focus for the team after the break. Richmond hit out hard and fast and crept back in to the game. Tries to Wendell Schaumkel, Meli Kolovai, Josh Fialua and Alfred Fafoua allowed Richmond a 24 -36 score line with 15 minutes to play. However, the Hawkes managed to hold on to win 46 -24. A much needed improvement is needed for next week’s game against Howick.

Francis Ledger breaks through East Coast defence.jpg

Francis Leger (pictured) had a great game scoring four tries for Richmond. His opposite was Vulcans centre Shaun Metcalf who was shut down for much of the game with strong defence from Andrew Kake, Corey Teina and Saliga Kepoia. It was a team effort throughout the game, and the forwards set a very strong platform in particular Fa'avae Kalolo and Tere Strickland who stood out by providing momentum for the rest of the team to emulate.
East Coast Bays suffered from a sinbin close to the end of the first half as well as close to the end of the second half with ill disciplined no wrap shoulder only tackles. The Bulldogs backs capatalised from forwards player of the day Tala Tuisila's consistent hit ups and the team benefitted from the games best back and Warriors under 20s Gun, Francis Ledger. Richmond Bulldogs 40 - East Coast Bays 24.

The team have got Ellerslie next week at home and will definitely be looking for another strong improvement. Cheers to all the Richmond supporters, team and club sponsors and the teams management.

Bulldog bullyscare.gifTwo Points gained at home

Round 4 - Sat 19th April
Played at GREY LYNN PARK 2

Richmond played the Ellerslie Eagles at home. Richmond started this game rather slow with the handling errors troubling both teams. Heading in to the half time break 12 all, stand in coach Alipa Solomona had some stern words about the ball handling errors of the team. This was addressed in the first stanza after the break, with Richmond building momentum and much needed go forward for the outside backs steam rolling there opposition to lead 38-12. With 10 minutes remaining Richmond grew frustrated and reverted to playing as they did in the first half. Ellerslie picked up some momentum and possession scoring two late converted consolation tries. Richmond will need to address this if the team is to be consistent against stronger teams.

Richmond u12 v Otara u12 Match Report

At Ngati Otara Park 10.45 am

After having no game last week the Bulldogs where looking forward to getting some more game time under there belts, this week we travelled out to Otara.
The 1st half started off on the wrong foot with the Bulldogs making a mistake from the kick-off, which resulted in a try from the scrum, this proved to kick the boys into action, resulting in Richmond scoring straight from the kick-off, and from then on was one way traffic, never letting Otara into there half, half time score 38-4
The 2nd half began the same way as the 1st half ended, but this time Otara put in a much more determined effort, making the Bulldogs work for there tries, overall a very strong finish to the game, Richmond winning 52-4.
Again there were strong performances by the forwards, who laid the foundation and allowed our backs to run rampant out wide, the Richmond u12’s look forward to seeing you all at our first home game of the season against neighbours Mt Albert.

- Too much bite from Bulldogs!

Richmond u12 Match Report

Played Mangere East Madhawks u12
5 April 2008, At Avondale RC 1130am

After solid 5-6 weeks of pre season training, and good trial form going into this weeks game, the boys where looking forward to playing there first competitive game against Mangere East.
1st half: Started off with a hiss and a roar with Mangere out of the blocks first, who continued to apply pressure through most of the first half forcing the Bulldogs into making lots of tackles, but after a slow start the Bulldogs worked there way back into the game, with a bit more ball, we started to complete more sets, and finishing the half strongly. 24-0 to Richmond
2nd half: With a strong finish to the 1st half the Bulldogs came out firing, forcing Mangere into making mistakes, leading to the Bulldogs scoring, then came the Mangere fight back, who scored not long after, but this only lead to the boys digging deep, keeping out the Mangere team for the rest of the game, much more improved 2nd half with more completed sets, and good defence patterns coming through, along with our game plays, the coaching staff where very happy with what was achieved through the pre season, and to see it coming through the game. 28-4 to Richmond
Congratulations to both our Capt (Mataio) and Vice Capt (Bradley) who were voted by there peers, well done boys. We look forward to seeing you all at our next home game…

- Under 16's: Richmond Bulldogs v's Te Atatu Roosters

Another game of shear determination for Bulldogs u16s

Every Richmond under 16s player played there roles from the start to the finish of the game.  With the luxury of having more than 20 eager players to chose from, Coach, George Thompson has looked to give everyone the opportunity for a fair amount of game time.  With the start of the season beginning last weekend George has time to work on the development of players who need require some technical refining.  The Bulldogs came out on a rampage in the first stanza, with notable second rower Patrick usually carrying up to 2-3 Te Atatu players with each hit up as he stomped his way up the middle.  The game was practically one sided with the half time score being a dominant 42-6 to the Bulldogs.  No one player stood out above the other as everyone played as a team and rewarded the Player of the Day to be 'THE TEAM'.  Team ball skill moves worked well and the team benefited from the much needed go forward by the big boys of the team.  Of note, there was Great work also by both the halves Matthew and Jordan who orchestrated many plays to the tee.  Final score 70-6 to the Richmond Bulldogs.  Some great footwork also from Tony (twinkle toes).  Well done boys! With 2 games played there has been great discipline by both the players and supporters.  Keep it up and good luck for next weekends game.

- Bulldogs vs Te Atatu

Bulldogs heel to Crowing Rooster

The Richmond Premier grade team had an unusually slow start to this match against a much determined Roosters pack led by former Richmond players Logan Wright, Marvin France and Aaron Nootai. The Richmond team became irritable and frustrated with many school boy handling errors. To add to this was the momentous amount of defence sustained from recurring penalties. Leading from the front was prop and captain Tala Tuisila followed by loose forward Saliga Keipoia.
